Scott Whitenack
My name is Scott Whitenack. I grew up playing all sports but gravitated to basketball at Johnson Middle School and PRP High School. During my college years, I realized that I was getting out of shape and was a harder time getting up and down the court during pick-up games, so I decided to start running. I lived in an apartment by Cherokee Park at the time and decided to run from my apartment around Cherokee Park and back. That didn't go so well. And from that day on, I've been running. I have currently completed 6 marathons and several half marathons. I started running just to get in shape originally, but after a short time, fell in love with the sport. After falling in love with running myself, I thought that there had to be kids out there that would love it too!
I started the cross country program at Chenoweth Elementary, where I work currently. I coached at Chenoweth for 10 years and loved every minute of it. During that time, I also began coaching with Derby City Athletic Club. We had some of the best young runners in the country and won the AAU National Championship 3 times in the 6 years that I worked with them. While doing that, I also began coaching at JCTMS. There I learned that I really enjoyed coaching a higher level of athlete. In two years there, we produced one city champion. Then I got the job at Ballard. This is my third season working with the Bruins. We're building something here at Ballard! I love working with young athletes that are motivated and want to improve and have goals and dreams. Let's run some distance!
