Our Sustainable Ecosystem Project

By Max and Hajar

On our planet, there are animals and plants in ecosystems. Our planet provides us with natural beauty. Our planet also provides us shelter, water, and food. Looking after the planet is as important to us as it is to the animals and plants in the ecosystems. Lots of life on our planet is threatened. 12% of the ten thousand known species of birds & 12% of the 5,500 species of mammals are threatened. Threatened means they are in danger of being extinct as their numbers are really low. Conservation Ecology focuses on preserving the health of our earth’s ecosystems. A healthy ecosystem is able to remain diverse and produce over time. Productive ecosystems are important to the earth because clean ecosystems provide clean water and clean food and clean air, too.

At Klondike Lane Elementary, we want to create a Sustainable Ecosystem for the animals in Mr. Moreschi’s Klondike Zoo. In a sustainable ecosystem, the animals and plants help each other survive. We want to build a Greenhouse. We can use the poop from our Klondike Zoo animals to add nutrients to the soil needed for the plants. These plants will feed the animals in the Klondike Zoo. It will be our own sustainable ecosystem and it will help our entire school learn a lot about the world in which we live!
