Parents will not be permitted in the hallway during arrival and dismissal. If a parent is walking down the hallway, he or she will be instructed to return to the main lobby. This is a School-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council Policy for students' safety. Kindergarten parents can walk their child to the classroom door for the first week of school.
If transportation other than the normal routine needs to be made for a student, a provided Google form should be submitted. The form must be completed by 2:45 p.m. to provide the necessary time to notify students and teachers. In the event of a rare emergency and transportation changes need to be made after 2:45 p.m., the school must be notified immediately at (502) 485-8214.
ALL appointments with teachers must be scheduled. We protect all instructional minutes and phone calls to teachers, and visits can not be honored during school hours. Messages will be provided to teachers promptly, and you will receive a timely response. If a parent has a scheduled appointment with a teacher, the parent must have approval from the office, sign in, and wear a name tag. This is for the safety of our students and staff.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, all students are car riders and/or walkers. JCPS no longer provides bus transportation to Brandeis Elementary. Exceptions may apply for students who are eligible to receive McKinney Vento Homeless Assistant Act services, foster children, and Exceptional Child Education (ECE) students who have Special Needs Transportation (SNT) in their Individual Education Program (IEP).
Arrival
All car riders and walkers will enter through the door by the teacher parking lot from Garland Ave. At 8 a.m., a Brandeis staff member will open the door and welcome your student(s).
Students are all provided breakfast at no cost and are supervised until the instructional day begins at 8:40 a.m. We ask that if you would like your student to eat breakfast at school, please arrive by 8:30 a.m. to allow your child time to eat and get to the classrooms, where instruction begins promptly at 8:40 a.m.
We thoroughly value every instructional minute. The staff member who greets students will close the door promptly at 8:40 a.m., and anyone arriving after that time must park and sign their student(s) in as tardy.
Dismissal
Students are dismissed at 3:20 p.m. from four different zones.
Each family is provided a car rider number designated to all the students in that family.
RED ZONE
The RED zone is reserved for our Kindergarten and 1st-grade car riders (and their older siblings).
YELLOW ZONE
The YELLOW zone is for 2nd- and 3rd-grade car riders (and their older siblings).
BLUE ZONE
The BLUE zone is for 4th- and 5th-grade car riders.
GREEN ZONE
The GREEN zone is for walkers and PUPs.
PUPs is a system that allows parents to find street parking and walk to the main entrance, display the provided car rider number, and pick up the student directly. All zones are complete by 3:40 p.m. Anyone arriving after this time will need to park and come in to sign students out in the front office.
The safety of students is our top priority. The Brandeis staff is committed to making this procedure as safe and quick as possible. Parents, students, and staff members must work together to keep the car riders safe and to make this experience pleasant for everyone involved.
