In order to be considered for placement at Brandeis STEAM, families must apply through the JCPS Options and Magnet System within district guidelines.

The application process is closed currently. The JCPS Magnet Applications will open on November 11, 2024, and close on December 20, 2024.

Thank you so much for considering Brandeis Elementary School for your child's education. We are very proud of our school and our students.

How to Apply

The JCPS Options and Magnet Application can only be completed online and is required for consideration for admission to Brandeis. If you do not have access to a computer, JCPS will provide various locations parents may use to complete the process (Lam Building, Early Childhood centers, Mobile Registration locations, and Achievement Area locations throughout the district). All information can be found on the JCPS website.

After applying through the district system, your name will be added to the district Brandeis lottery. No additional information is required. Tours are not required but are encouraged to ensure families choose the best fit for their child.

When parents fill out the application, there are two sections, one for magnet and one for cluster schools. If families choose Brandeis, we recommend that they select Brandeis as their first choice to ensure that they are included in the lottery, as we are generally not able to get to our second choices. We also want to encourage all families to fill out both the magnet and cluster options.

The district lottery system is NOT first come, first served—families will be entered into the lottery as long as they apply during the district application window.

All magnet schools will go through the lottery system in January, and parents will be notified at the end of January or early February of their child's acceptance or of their place on the waiting list. After the magnet school process, Student Assignment will place students in cluster schools based on ranking.

Choosing a magnet choice DOES NOT affect your cluster choice as they take place at different times. If you are placed in a magnet the process ends there for you, if you are not, then your child will be included in the cluster process. Please do not let fear of missing out on your cluster prevent you from applying for magnet, they are two different processes, so one doesn't cancel out the other.

The random draw process has been used with the traditional schools in JCPS for the last twenty years and draws students evenly from applicants from three different JCPS census areas. There is no preference for siblings of current or former students, but if families have twins or triplets who are applying, they are considered one student. The lottery draw is completely conducted and overseen by district officials.
