Louisville Male High School softball is off to a strong start this season, largely, thanks to the Bulldog's ability to hit home runs. The Bulldogs have three players in the top 50 for home runs scored, including two in the top five.
Junior Riley Newman is tied for first in home runs scored (10) with just 36 at-bats. The other two players with 10 home runs have 70 and 59 at-bats, respectively.
Senior Madison Reed is ranked fifth, having eight home runs with 34 at-bats and junior Lily Jones is 43rd in Kentucky with five home runs with 38 at-bats.
"It's a good competition," Newman said. "I do find myself, like if (Madison) Reed hits one, I have to hit one. Or if Lily (Jones) hit one, I have to hit one. Just so not to prove myself, but so we can, like, be together as a group."
As great as home runs are, the only stat the Bulldogs truly care about is the number of wins they can pile up.
"We're kind of going for the same goal right now, and we don't really pay attention to how many home runs we hit or what our average is," Reed said. "It's just, we're trying to win state."
