A former teacher, assistant principal and current principal at Slaughter Elementary School has been named the new principal at the school she attended as a child - Brandeis Elementary. Stacey Rowan will remain at Slaughter through the rest of the school year before transferring to Brandeis in July.
“Ms. Rowan is a passionate advocate for all students, and strives to partner with both families and community members,” said Paige Harstern, Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Zone 2. “Ms. Rowan is a confident leader who will reinforce high standards for both students and staff. We are excited to welcome her as the principal of Brandeis Elementary.”
Rowan is looking forward to the challenge. She already knows a bit about Brandeis’ history because she went to kindergarten and first grade at the school.
“As the new principal of Brandeis Elementary, I am committed to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential,’ Rowan said. “Our dedicated team will work collaboratively with parents, teachers, and the community to cultivate a culture of academic excellence, creativity, and respect.”
Rowan has been at Slaughter since 2009 as a teacher, assistant principal and, for the past seven years, principal. In 2016, she was named JCPS’ Outstanding Elementary School Assistant Principal of the Year. She received her bachelor’s degree from McKendree University, a master’s in teaching and educational specialist degrees from Bellarmine University.
She begins her new principalship at Brandeis on July 8th.
“Together, we will inspire a love for learning, cultivate critical thinking skills, and prepare our students to become compassionate and responsible citizens of the world,” Rowan said.
