JCPS students get free eye exams, glasses
December 5, 2023 - Students at JCPS elementary schools are getting free eye exams and a chance to see clearly for the first time courtesy of the Adarsh Charitable Foundation, two ophthalmologists and optometry student volunteers. The program was recently at Maupin Elementary, where students were thrilled with their new glasses.
More than three dozen students have been identified as needing glasses at the first three schools to participate in the program. Many of those students had never had an eye exam or, if they did, never took the next step to get the glasses they needed because their families don't have insurance coverage, according to Dr. Eva Stone, manager of JCPS Health Services.
One of the students at Maupin - Jax - shared a big smile when she put on her new glasses.
"Everything was kind of blurry," she said. "But now that I have them (glasses) I can see alot more better."
