Says it’s his “dream job” to lead a middle school
By Mark Hebert
He taught middle school students for nearly nine years and always wanted to get back to a school full of 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Now he’s getting his wish. Tim Alexander, who is currently the Freshman Academy Principal at Marion C. Moore High School, has been named the new principal at Lassiter Middle School.
“I am honored to be selected as the next Principal for Lassiter Middle School,” Alexander said. “Words cannot express how excited I am to collaborate with the school community to support students in reaching their full potential. We will focus on continuing to implement existing systems while working to develop new initiatives to provide wrap-around supports for EACH student. Lassiter will be a school where learning takes place every single day and diversity is valued.”
After graduating with a teaching degree in December, 2010, Alexander landed a job as a math teacher at Bullitt Lick Middle School in Bullitt County before moving on to Westport and Moore Middle Schools in Jefferson County. He was promoted to the Freshman Academy Principal job at Moore in 2019.
“Mr. Alexander comes to Lassister with a strong background teaching middle school, and serving as an administrator at both the middle and high school levels,” said Rob Fulk, assistant superintendent of middle schools. “Lassiter’s school based decision making council, which recommended his hiring, was most impressed with his approach to consistency in academics, discipline, and teacher support.”
Alexander received his teaching degree from the University of Louisville, a Master’s Degree in Teacher Leadership and principal certificate from the University of the Cumberlands. He is also a member of a Jefferson County Public Schools initiative to develop new school leaders, including principals.
“Lassiter was looking for a leader that would be fair, balanced, and visible within the school culture,” Fulk said. “I believe we have found this in Mr. Alexander. We welcome his great attitude and sound academic skills into JCPS’ family of middle schools.”
Alexander will be swapping buildings with Jason Detre, Lassiter’s former principal who was recently named the new principal at Moore.
“My family and educational journey have prepared me for this next step, and we are proud to join the Lassiter family,” Alexander said.
