Sophomore starts boys volleyball program

June 12, 2023—Pleasure Ridge Park (PRP) High School boys volleyball finished its inaugural season this spring, and sophomore Royce S. couldn't have been more proud to be a part of the team.
"I grew up playing volleyball," he said. "I started my fourth-grade year, and then I just knew that I found love for it."
But since elementary school, Royce's love had been unobtainable. His middle school didn't have a team, and neither did his high school. So, he decided his freshman year, he was going to create the team himself.
While he wasn't able to get a team his freshman year, thanks to the help of PRP Athletic Director and head coach of the team Nick Waddell, the team has now completed its first full season.
Royce is glad something he started is now a sport more students can fall in love with.
"It feels like a big accomplishment for me but also for our whole school because it puts a spotlight on our school," Royce said. "Saying that we're open to any type of idea."
