The man who has been managing the day to day operations of Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) Culture and Climate Office will now be overseeing the entire department. Dr. Matt Anderson has been named by Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio as the new assistant superintendent of culture and climate.
“Dr. Anderson has dedicated his work in JCPS to improving the systems and structures necessary to create thriving school environments for students,” said Chief Academic Officer Terra Greenwell. “He has provided consistent support for our schools during often challenging times. Under Dr. Anderson's leadership, the work of improving climate and culture in our schools will continue, resulting in positive outcomes for students and increased partnerships with our community members.”
Anderson has been the number two administrator in Culture and Climate since 2020. Several JCPS divisions fall under Anderson including Student Relations, Bullying, Social-emotional Learning and Safety Administrators. Anderson helped implement or expand a number of district-wide programs related to student behavior, trauma-informed care, data collection and restorative practices.
“I am honored to take on this new role leading the Culture and Climate Department,” Anderson said. “I look forward to extending our efforts to build a positive culture and safe learning environment for all students. I plan to continue increasing student engagement by providing relevant resources for both our students and staff in this work.”
Anderson has been in JCPS since 2007 as a high school teacher, coach, resource teacher, assistant principal, interim principal and director of the Office of Student Relations before becoming executive administrator of the Culture and Climate Office. He replaces Katy DeFerrari who is now chief of staff. Anderson begins his new position April 1.
