After 18 years of running elementary schools as a principal, Tracy Barber will now be overseeing Jefferson County Public Schools’ (JCPS) large projects, including those with the District’s community and business partners. Barber has been named Executive Administrator of Special Projects.
“I am excited to continue serving the district in this new capacity, where I can help shape projects that drive innovation and support the success of all our schools, foster strong community engagement, and build partnerships that support our shared vision,” Barber said.
Barber has been with JCPS since 1995 as a teacher, counselor and principal. For the past decade she has served as principal at Dunn Elementary School, which was named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education for its overall academic excellence.
“As I step into my new role as Executive Administrator of Special Projects for JCPS, I carry with me a decade of cherished experiences as the Principal of Dunn Elementary,” Barber said. “Leading such an incredible community has taught me the power of collaboration, resilience, and the profound impact we can make in the lives of our students.”
Prior to her years leading Dunn, Barber was principal at Okolona Elementary, a counselor at Trunnell and Lowe elementary schools and a fifth grade teacher at Whitney Young Elementary School. It’s her experience, leadership and ability to collaborate with many partners that makes Barber a perfect fit for special projects according to JCPS Chief of Staff Dr. Katy DeFerrari.
“I could not be more excited about having Tracy in this role,” DeFerrari said. “Her capacity to engage stakeholders and build relationships will assist us with maintaining and growing meaningful partnerships. Her leadership experience is an asset to my team, and I can't wait for her to get started!”
