As the instructional leader at McFerran Early Childhood Center, I am honored to be where students, parents, and teachers strive to build meaningful relationships that support academic and social-emotional growth. We welcome a close relationship with our families and hope you will take an active interest in McFerran Early Childhood Center.

Let me tell you a little about myself. For 20 years, I have dedicated my career to educating children and building relationships with families. I served as a K-5 teacher, a gifted/talented catalyst teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina, and an Academic Instructional Coach at JCPS. I truly loved every position because they provided me with invaluable experiences. Each experience provided me with the tools to become your principal/instructional leader. And for that, I am grateful.

Our vision is to cultivate classrooms of excellence, empower families, prepare students for kindergarten and improve our community. We will accomplish this vision by working together as partners. We value and respect what you have to contribute to our school.

As always, my door is open, and we welcome your input. Please feel free to contact me via email at the address below or call to make an appointment to speak with me via phone call or Google Meet. I wish you the best school year ever! Stay healthy, stay positive, and stay connected.

McFerran Proud,

Hello McFerran Early Childhood Families,

I am the school counselor for all the stars of McFerran Early Childhood (ECH). At McFerran ECH, students make a daily promise to be stars by being responsible, respectful and safe. As the school counselor, I work to support students and help them develop the necessary skills to be responsible, respectful, and safe at school. My goal is to assist all my stars in shining as brightly as possible.

To help students gain skills, I provide classroom guidance lessons, small groups and individual sessions geared toward supporting the academic, social/emotional, and career development of all our stars. Each day is an opportunity to gain the necessary skills to be successful.

Along with a Masters of Education in School Counseling and Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education (IECE), I have nearly ten years of experience working with early childhood students and families. I have served as a Rank I teacher here at McFerran, a service coordinator with First Steps, and Community Childcare Specialist with Early Head Start. My various experiences working with early childhood students and families will allow me to support you, your students and family.

I look forward to working with you this year. If you feel your student needs assistance please feel free to contact me and request services or resources.

As a final note, please talk with your students about our pledge and how they work towards being stars at school each day. Thank you for sharing your star with McFerran ECH!

Daily Promise:

  • I am a star!

  • I have a bright mind and a bright future

  • I will be responsible

  • I will be respectful

  • I will keep myself safe

Best,
Ashley Thomas

McFerran Early Childhood Family, Friends, and Community Partners,

My name is Rebecca Johns, and I am the Family Resource Coordinator at The Bridge at McFerran Early Childhood Center (ECH).  I have worked in Louisville in a variety of social services positions over the last 10 years, and I hope that I can use these experiences to continue to grow partnerships with organizations in our community. Our Family Resource Center opened on October 4, 2021 and I look forward to continue building our program into one of the best in the District! As the FRC, I serve as the bridge between our families and our community partners and I hope that by helping families build these connections early in their children's lives that our families will feel more confident in advocating for the assistance they may need in the future. There should be no shame in asking for help. I hope to help families and our community understand that everyone needs help at some point and when they do, the family resource center will be here to help them.

I look forward to working with our students, their families, our staff, and community this school year, and I am excited to see our program grow.

Rebecca Johns, MSSW
