Multilingual Learners
English Language Development
Program overview
In the English Language Development Program (formerly ESL) ELD teachers provide extra support to students and teachers to ensure multilingual learners have access to academic content and are learning English.
Student Identification Process
Complete a home language survey. This is one of the important papers parents are given at registration.
Your student will be screened (tested in English) to see what their needs are.
After the screener, parents will be interviewed.
After the screener, your student may be identified as a multilingual learner and part of our ELD program
The ELD teachers will create a program service plan (PSP) for your student. Students will receive intentional instruction in English and may receive accommodations such as extra time, a bilingual dictionary, Native language interpretation, a reader, and/or a scribe.
In January of each year students will take an English language proficiency exam called ACCESS. This is used to monitor student progress.
Our ELD TEachers
